BDP nets one

Opposition parties in Serowe on Monday gave the BDP a free ticket to parliament when they failed to field candidates to challenge Vice President Ian Khama Seretse Khama in the Serowe North West Constituency.

Their failure means that the BDP has already won one parliamentary seat well ahead of elections on October 30. Yesterday was nomination day for both parliamentary and council candidates.

Speculation had already been rife in Serowe about the possibility of Khama going unopposed. Two weeks ago, Radio Botswana programme featuring parliamentary candidates, failed to bring together politicians in the constituency as there was nobody to face Khama in the debate.

Khama was also unopposed in the BDP's Bulela Ditswe. Reports from Serowe also indicate that the BDP was unopposed at the Mmashoro council ward.
