FORMER CAPRIVI MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT DIES

FORMER Member of Parliament in the then Administration for Caprivians ,late Mr. Wilson Lyonga Sakutiya died on 23 January 2011 in Katima Mulilo State Hospital after short illness and was laid to rest on the 28th of January 2011 at Musanga graveyard .

Mr. Sakutiya was born on 11 April 1930 at Nakabolelwa Village in Imukusi area of the Caprivi Region; He started his education at Mission School and later went to WANKIE in Northern Rhodesia, which is Zambia today. When he came back, he married his first wife the late Milinga Sukuta and after, he went to Bechuanaland which is today Botswana where he studied construction.

His wife then followed him and stayed together up to 1962 when they both came back home. In 1963, he started his own Construction Company. In 1964, while working as a Government official, he constructed government schools and houses in Ngweze old location.

In 1966 he went for a training that was organised by the government and he spent three years there. When he came back home, he continued with his construction work.

In 1975 he left Construction and in 1978 he was appointed as a member of parliament in the Local Government of the Administration for Caprivians until his retirement, after retiring he became an advisory member of the Katima Mulilo Local Authority Administration where he used to advice on allocation of building sites up to 1980. From that year he stayed at his village until he left the earth (passed away) on January 23, 2011.

The late left his wife, 1 son and six (6) daughters, Eighteen (18) grand children, His elder sister and four young brothers.

As he is remembered in the history of Katima Mulilo Township, The Katima Mulilo Town Council (KMTC) had some message of condolences to the mourners, Family members of the late , Relatives and to the people of Katima Mulilo town as well as the entire region and the country at large. The message was read by Mr. Charles Nawa the Finance Manager, IT and Asset Management at KMTC and was given power to do so by the office of His worship Mr. John Likando Mayor of Katima Mulilo and the Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vincent Sazita.

The KMTC described the death of the late Mr. Sakutiya as a loss to the people of Katima Mulilo and the Region at large not only his family alone but the entire residents was also shocked about his untimely death.

“The late was peaceful and friendly with the KMTC with his knowledge of services and the Katima council remembers him during his early days in the government before his retirement, he was a dedicated work man who developed the Katima Mulilo township where people are leaving today and was a man among those who were sent to South Africa to learn Civil Constructions which he achieved and started to build houses in Ngweze with others”. Said Mr. Nawa

The Council described him as a man of great reasoning and reconciling, as his work remains their consolation and that his dedication to the people of the Town and to the country cannot be forgotten easily,

“He remains a friend in the council part and for people who worked with him will remember him in action for developing the town of Katima Mulilo”. Mr.Nawa furthered.
